Working w/ local and international design professionals, McFadden & Miller constructed the whirlstand housing, control building, and containment cage. The uniqueness of this device required many adjustments throughout the construction process, a sort of “plan-as-you-build” technique which, though at times frustrating, ultimately resulted in a device which sets CTI apart from its competitors, and McFadden and Miller is proud to have been a part of it.

Cti-Whirlstand
In June of 2010, McFadden & Miller was engaged to help design and construct a one-of-a-kind test facility @ DFW Airport for Composite Technology Inc., a division of Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation. CTI rehabs/ refurbishes helicopter blades for most major manufacturers’ aircraft, both civilian and military. In its efforts to improve tolerances of their refurbished products, CTI needed a test stand which would spin the various rotor blades up to and even beyond normal stress levels for a given blade: in essence a “whirlstand”.
